The album suffers from the sometimes strained voice of Bennett especially when he has to hold notes. The other singers who provide vocals are in most cases at the top of their profession and show up the legendary vocalist for his limitations. I understand that Mr Bennett is 84 but as in the Duets album with Sinatra I think one should look at the back catalogue and not the mish-mash that these "contemporary" albums supply. **.

THE X FACTOR.

We always hope that the X factor will improve with the passing years, and this year with the absense of Simon Cowell and the inclusion of Gary Barlow , things might look a little brighter. At least Gary Barlow is not having any of the ridiculous performances that have blighted the standard of previous shows that Louis Walsh seemed to like; However we still get the back stories,the tears,the cliches,the reality surprises which I have to admit seems engineered by the producers. There is a certainty that there will be problems,possibly trouble, often call-backs and definitely judges arguments. It's all a circus really....but sometimes....just sometimes....you have to realize that there could be a real star in amongst the final choices...someone that rises above the innocuous pop songs they are given to sing and someone whose style and performance sells CDs and Arenas. Perhaps they'll be allowed to choose their own songs this year. Perhaps not. Lots of new talent has appeared this year without X factor help but that's not the point.Everybody involved makes money......and that's the point!

A new version of Annie with Double CD including Annie 2. Annie 2 is interesting but woefully inadequate as a musical.The new recording of ANNIE is excellant because it is complete and the orchestra is far pacier and strong than the original. there are lots of extras so,if you're a fan of the musical, extremely good value.

The new album has some older vintage tracks on which are all excellant. The newer tracks recorded in the seventies and eighties occasionally do not find Doris in perfect voice but then in ones late fifties/early sixties nothing is as good as it was. It's Doris Day and the magic is still there. However if you want the best listen to the double album CD mentioned above and you won't be dissapointed.

A good album if you are a Glen Cambell fan, and this,due to oncoming illness will proberbly be his last. The voice is strong and the songs are good although the little instremental breaks throughout the CD are a little tiresome. Both his commercial fans and Country and Western fans will enjoy this album.****.

JOE McELDERRY " CLASSIC"...TRACKS PLAYED....

A high attainment needed for this album of familiar light classical pieces and Mr McElderry succeeds in most.I DREAMED A DREAM and DANCE WITH MY FATHER are especially good but when he tackles the ANDREA BOCELLI classics comparison shows some weaknesses.Very pleasant album and it's initial high postion in the charts could make this a Christmas sleeper especially with some TV plugs.***.

A very Jerry Herman score which became immensely popular after the show had folded after 65 performances. Due mainly to David Jacobs featuring the overture which had become well known as Ice Dancers Torville and Dean used it to receive gold at the Olympics for Ice Dancing. The score is wonderful even if the script was not and the downbeat ending because of Mabel Mormands early death was difficult to thread into an upbeat show. A great musical CD.*****.
