MATILDA..THE MUSICAL.

The biggest ticket in London at the  moment competing with the likes of WICKED for the most popular
family show in the West End. So is it that good?.....well, yes it is that good but you would be hard
done by to hum any of the songs as you leave the theatre. You will be impressed by the professionalism
of the company of youngsters who make up the chorus and execute the difficult routines with as
much aplomb as their elders. You will be impressed by the acting and singing of one of the four
young actresses playing Matilda.  It's a spectacle of comedy, music and dancing but lacks one hit
song. When groups of children sing together the words get lost and with young ladies singing speedily
the words get lost. This is a Concept Musical that takes your breath away but not a Musical CD you
will go out and buy unless you've seen the show and want a souvenir. It needed a couple of hit songs
to make it great. It's going to America next year and I'm sure it will do as well as it has here...however
they may add a song or two to help it's identification in advertising. I can't see it reviving but I can see
Junior Societies all over the country giving it a go when it is released for Amateurs. This could be
their undoing as this needs Professionals only.

PLAYLIST JUNE 26TH + PUPPINI SISTERS..HOLLYWOOD CD.

HOLLYWOOD CD...PUPPINI SISTERS.
Tracks played....Hollywood / I got rhythm / Good morning / Get happy/Diamonds are a girl's
best friend.

This is perhaps the least successful CD from the sisters in that in does not include any revamps
of new material in a new way....the Andrew's sisters way. The songs usually come up fresh and
lively but in this case some tracks are disastrous. A complete misreading of I FEEL PRETTY and
a whining version of MOON RIVER are just two examples.....and why does the Theme from the
Godfather have to be sung in French ? The uptempo numbers are the most successful and these I
included on last night's show but future CD's will need a little more imagination if they are to
continue as an alternative high class girl group.  ***.

JUBILEE CONCERT.

A wave of nostalgia dominated a concert that remembered the last six decades of the Queen's reign.
Some of the vocals didn't survive that long sixty year distance. Sir Cliff, Sir Elton and Sir Paul were
woefully inadequate in keeping in tune and although surrounded by excellant sparkling backing some
notes were never reached, some notes were never held, some notes were never written. We all know
some singers use tuners to keep them in tune on their records. Will I am freely admits it (as we noticed)
but Sir Tom,Jessie J, and Dame Shirley and others had no problem in performing as we know them and
therefore the audiences must have sighed with relief . Being there proberbly one didn't notice. The
excitement of the moment and the enjoyment of seeing living legends on stage in front of them. Live
performance can hide the defects, however on TV nothing is hidden and on live TV nothing is
sacred and artists are at the mercy of the sound man and the relaxed critical opinions of the viewers.
I'm afraid I was one of those viewers and was disappointed that songs I remember not being quite
as I remembered them. That's life !
