Johnny Ray was really, the artist who introduced rock and roll to American and British audiences as many of his fifties hits had a dancing beat to them. He also recorded heartfelt ballads with a performance and personality that came over the grooves, and those grooves were mainly on Shellac 78s. Mitch Miller was in charge on the Phillips label in Britain for Johnny's output and through the decade the collaberation was immensely successful.

Scott Walker was undoubtably one of the finest singers of the sixties generation. He was the Walker Brothers and apart from content there is little difference between the records he released on his own and with the Walker Brothers. His single releases were beautifully arranged and beautifully sung but were not really chart material, even so, some still made good positions in the top twenty. With the Walker Brothers some of the sounds were quite boxy especially the early Phillips singles, but on a revival with "No regrets" the sound was excellant. After several Albums of interesting material Scott Walker retired and despite reporters finding out where he was , apart from a BBC 2 Documentary, he has turned his back on the music business.
