This is the album Sinatra recorded with old friend Alex Stordahl as a last favour
and reunion with his past master. It was one of the contractual albums( 1 of 3)
that he had to record before leaving for his own new label...Reprise. It has been
said he rushed through it leaving quickly after sessions were finished without
listening to playbacks. If that, indeed was the case, he certainly know how to
put pure professionalism on vynyl as every track is a masterpiece. He's sung them
before...sure...but with new arrangements, he knew what he was doing.
The last four tracks were not released in September 61 as the liner notes infer.
They are the two singles Sinatra recorded after he had just signed with Capitol
in 1953 including Lean Baby, very modern at the time. Elvis wasn't around for
another three years. The extra four tracks, not really mixing well with the rest
of the album are however a good bonus. ****.
