ONE DIRECTION...NEW SINGLE....STEAL MY GIRL.
Just another One Direction single. Previous singles have been better than this.**.
BOBBY DARIN IF I WERE A CARPENTER/INSIDE OUT...DIABLO RECORDS.(2cds)
tracks played...
If I were a carpenter / Don't make promises / I am / Whatever happened to Happy /
Hello Sunshine / I'm going to love you.
A strange matching of albums with both having a fairly random selection of songs. This
is not to say that it is not good. Unusually interesting and perfectly vocalised. Bobby
Darin was often hailed as successor to Sinatra and had a more varied approach to
all different types of material. This album proves that.****.

PATTI PAGE VOL 1 ON COLIN HOLMES EASY LISTENING SHOW 21 ST OCTOBER 2014.
PATTI PAGE VOL 1 EIGHT CLASSIC ALBUMS.....REAL GONE MUSIC...4CDS.
Tracks played....
I want to be a cowboy sweetheart / Mocking bird hill / I'll string along with you /
You're driving me crazy / You go to my head / I didn't know what time it was /
Milwaukee Polka / I can't tell a waltz from a tango.
Yes indeed....91 tracks from the superb voice of Patti Page. I have to admit these are
early recordings from 1956-57 but the voice is crystal clear on these tracks, the performances
are great and the orchestrations, although by today's standards are dated , are very
acceptable. Patti sings everything without improvisation, so all the songs are sung as
they were originally intended, straight. Most are excellent choice standards and all are
worth hearing just for Patti's voice....clear and concise. 4star****. There will be a volume
2 released shortly.

BARBRA STREISAND..PARTNERS..ON COLIN HOLMES EASY LISTENING SHOW OCTOBER 10TH 2014.
BARBRA STREISAND...PARTNERS....COLUMBIA/SONY MUSIC...£10.
tracks played.....
It had to be you......MICHAEL BUBLE.*****
People...................STEVIE WONDER.***.
I still can see your face....ANDREA BOCELLI.*****.
Somewhere............JOSH GROBAN.****.
Love me tender......ELVIS PRESLEY.****.
I've got a crush on you.....FRANK SINATRA.***.
17 tracks on this album, four of them recorded earlier on other "Duet" type albums.
Barbra's voice is , as if she had been away. It is almost disturbingly as good as
ever. This is all ballads and it does get a little monotonous as each slow track
slips into another slow track. ...not that quality is skimped on....there is a lot to
commend and although I only played seven tracks on the show there was nothing
to criticise on the remaining items. The Sinatra Duet only got three stars because
it was recorded in his later recording years and the tonal sound of his voice is not
what we're used to. He was in his eighties for goodness sake. Presley's track with
it's new accompaniment orchestra is very smooth and very acceptable. This was
the tracks I was expecting to dislike. As a whole it is a professional release but
a few new swingers or uptempo numbers would have been gratefully received.****.

NANCY SINATRA + MILLION SELLERS OF 1956 ON COLIN HOLMES EASY LISTEING SHOW SEPTEMBER 23RD.
NANCY SINATRA...THE ESSENTIAL NANCY SINATRA...EMI...LIBERTY nancysinatra.com
tracks played....
Sugar town / The Highway song / How does that grab you darlin' / I love them all ( the boys
in the band).
For all of Nancy Sinatra's hits this is good value although I do find the duets with Lee
Hazelwood a little dour and dirgy. The extras on this 26 track CD vary greatly and I found
some inclusions unusual and some not well recorded......however there are 10 hits and
four of these are million sellers and it was a discounted price. Good value.3star***.
THE 1956 BRITISH HIT PARADE...JANUARY TO JULY.(4CDS) ACROBAT MUSIC
ACQCD 7002.
TRACKS PLAYED.....
The ballad of Davy Crockett...Bill Hayes / Love and Marriage...Frank Sinatra / Memories
are made of this...Dean Martin / It's almost tomorrow...The dream Weavers / Rock and
roll waltz...Kay Starr / Heartbreak Hotel...Elvis Presley / The Happy whistler....Don
Robertson / Hot Diggity...Perry Como / Too young to go steady..Nat King Cole / Whatever
will be will be...Doris Day / Why do fools fall in love..Frankie Lymon & the teenagers.
This 4CD album has 94 tracks. On the programme the above nine were chosen as million
sellers. The albums have EVERY top twenty hit in Britain on them.....not all are top class
and some are technically lifted off old 45s or 78s so recording value is not as from Master
Tapes which other selected nostalgia CDs have gone to the trouble of doing. That does not
it is poor value, quite the opposite, it is a true reflection of the hit single output in Britain
for the first six months of 1956. 4star****.

ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY ON COLIN HOLMES MAGIC OF THE MUSICALS SEPTEMBER 21ST.
ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY...SONY BROADWAY...containing previously unreleased
material. No. SK 35330
CAST....John Cullum / Madeline Kahn / Imogene Coca / Kevin Kline.
A fascinating worthwhile CD to grace everybody's record collection who are interested in
Musicals. Superb orchestrations ( especially the Overture), excellent ensemble singing and this
CD has some extra tracks not on the vinyl release. John Callum, Kevin Kline and Imogene Coca
are in great form...my only guess would be that some people would not like the strange
performance from Madeleine Kahn. It is a little mannered and could annoy. *****.
ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. WEST END. Dennis Quilley,Julia Mc Kenzie / Dora
Bryan / Mark Wynter.
I saw this production in London many years ago and was completely entranced. The
difficult train effects were handled expertly and the sets and Art Deco style was a joy
to see. When a train speeds towards the audience with Dora Bryan in front of the engine
is a frightening wonder to behold. That I remember and the excellent singing from the
principles and chorus...not to mention the songs. A forgotten musical worth reviving.
